Call me negative, but this win puts a dent in our No. 1 pick. I cant applaud their success. Someone said it before, they'll end up playing mediocre enough for a mid round pick. And I don't like it.

The two times we won the lotto (once was when teams could only move up 4 slots) we weren’t the worst team in the league. I have faith that as long as we miss the playoffs lotto balls Hall will come through for us.

It's hard being the positive ones around these parts.

I dont want the team to lose for the sole purpose of keeping Hall happy and resigning with the team. Getting a high draft pick is all good and fun but losing a star player because he wants to play on a winning team is brutal. Tavares for example.

I like Severson as the #1. He's getting better & better. Vatanen is definitely better as a 2nd pair guy than a top pairing guy. If Severson can hold on & excel as the #1 it will help out a ton when it's time to re-sign Butcher, Mueller, Yakovlev, & Vatanen. Severson on the 2nd pair w shaky defense making over $4 million will have those guys saying I should make equal or more $ than him. So if he can establish himself as the clear #1 it will really help w contracts.

I feel bad for Mueller. He clearly wasn't ready for top pairing yet. That may have stunted his growth some. Now Yakovlev & Butcher are playing so well he finds himself as the odd man out. Before the season started I didn't think there'd be any chance Yakovlev would be on the ice without an injury or 2. I really thought Santini would've taken Lovejoys spot by now.

Hall is signed for another season after this. A top prospect (especially Hughes), mixed with developing our young talent and a plethora of high end free agents (stone/Panarin/Bobrovsky/Karlsson/Douchene/Pavelski/Simmonds/Lee, etc) with cap space to burn. I do not want to tank, but gaining a top prospect, combined with grooming our younger talent could make a contender out of this squad in a short time. If Hall decides he doesn't want to be a devil, then he wont sign an extension and we can trade him for serious value, and spend BIG money on UFA's. Just wish we would never play LJ again, put Greene on the bottom pairing and see what the young kids can do in a top 4 role. But oh well.

No one wants to tank but at this point it's our best shot at having a chance at getting better in the near future. This years draft has some really talented prospects in the top 5. Add that with a good signing and we are much better. We need to face it, this team stinks.
